Have you heard of the 90-Second Rule? Emotions are like waves that last 90 seconds. They come and go quickly. This concept was a game changer for me. It made me approach life from another perspective.
Neuroscientifically, when you are reacting to something in your environment, a 90-second chemical process happens in the body. Chemicals are flushed through your body, which makes you experience an emotion.
For those chemicals to totally flush out of your body, it takes less than 90 seconds. This means that for 90 seconds you can watch the process happening, you can feel it happening, and then you can watch it go away.
After that, if you continue to feel fear, anger, sadness,…, you need to look at the thoughts that are re-stimulating your internal circuitry, resulting in you having this physiological reaction, over and over again.
Any remaining emotional response is just you choosing to stay in the emotional loop!
When you feel stressed or triggered, practice the 90-Second Rule. Pause, breathe deeply and allow yourself to feel the tensions in your body ease.
Observe the emotion for 90 seconds without judging and let it disappear.
As one of my mentors, Dr. Joe Dispenza says: “Think Greater than you Feel, Be GREATER than your ENVIRONMENT!”
Our minds are very powerful, and we always have the possibility to choose.
